A very small party took this up this morning, completing it in a bit over an
hour in brilliant sunshine. The main concentration, perhaps 100+ birds, had
gathered sensibly on a well-vegetated hillside near the apogee of our route,
where they could conduct their early morning business in the full warmth of
the morning sun. Most in evidence were Spotted Pardalotes, Weebills, Grey
Fantails and Yellow-rumped and Buff-rumped Thornbills, the whole salted with
Silvereyes and Speckled Warblers, garnished with White-throated
Treecreepers, coated with a generous frosting of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters
drizzled with Golden Whistler, and smeared here and there with Double-bars.
The full readership of this chatline is something of a mystery, but in the belief that it is very unlikely to include any actual birds I shall run the risk of offending the dozen or so other sighted species omitted from this bulletin. |
