Following the posting of Nicholas Talbot on Birding-Aus, I made two trips to the sewerage ponds today to try and find the Lewin's Rail reported in the NW corner of pond 6.

My first trip mid morning was unsuccessful though I did observe a Spotless Crake. In the later afternoon I went out again. After an hour, with the sun setting and the reflection on the water making viewing through a scope very difficult I decided to have a final scan. There I saw a Lewin's Rail in the South West corner of the pond. It allowed me enough time to make a positive identification before it flew about 20m in the direction of the NW corner.

Following the Painted Buttonquail at Namadgi on Thursday, a second lifer for me in a week.

Regards and happy Easter

Alastair
