We had a wonderful week-end with all sorts of birding excitement -
although no Swift Parrots that we noticed.
I got home on Friday evening to find a Grey Currawong foraging in the
garden (very nice to see in so close). Saturday evening a juvenile
Little Friarbird was perched in our almond tree (great excitement and an
addition to GBS). Sunday morning a Frogmouth was calling. Sunday
evening, while gardening under said almond, 8 Gang-gangs flew in, the
closest being less than a metre away. And this morning we had 2
Red-rumped Parrots (very, very unusual at our place) and 15
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos flew over the house.
Inspired by Steve Holiday's recent trip to Namadgi we headed down that
way yesterday and at the turn off to Yankee Hat, were dozens of
honeyeaters (Fuscous, White napped, Yellow-faced, Spinebill, Friarbirds
and Wattlebirds), plus Diamond Firetails, Brown Treecreepers, both
Gerygones and lots more (47 species in all).
Following on from Martin's email about last sightings.
Dollarbird - none seen / heard at our place (Watson) since last Sunday,
but were continuous prior to that.
Friarbirds - still common - 5 on saturday.
Oriole - none seen / heard at our place (Watson) since January when
nestling fledged.
Dusky Woodswallows - still lots at Yankee Hat
Sacred Kingfisher - still at Yankee Hat
Rufous Songlark - still at Yankee Hat
White-winged Triller - still at Yankee Hat
