I have been in touch with COG people recently who are under the impression
that the Callum Brae rural lease has now been converted to a nature park and
is open to public access. This is not so. The decision has been announced
but not implemented. Before it is implemented some minor works relating to
signage and access points will be needed, and this will possibly, but not
definitely, occur this financial year.
Meanwhile, the lessees are continuing to pay rent and operate the property,
and do not welcome people who walk on as if it were already a public space.
For people who wish to take an extended nature walk in the Mugga Lane area,
may I commend the Mount Mugga Nature Park. This contains much of interest
and you hardly ever see anyone there. The top and east side of the Isaacs
Ridge is also good, although I am uncertain of the exact legal status of the
lower slopes
Anyone who wishes to stay informed of progress on Callum Brae should get in
touch with the Parks Service - David Jensen or Daniel Iglesias; the numbers
seem to change a bit but the ones in my book are 6207 2093 and 6260 9264.
