I went to O'Connor wetlands
yesterday. It is great to see it has already been built and looks well
established as I thought it was still only an idea. I did see one buff banded
rail. The wetlands seemed to be working well, with water leaving this channel
relatively clean whereas the water in the main channel was full of clay sediment
(it was raining at the time).
I also went to Black Mountain Peninsula in the hope of hearing an
Australasian Bittern, but didn't. I have heard no reports of Australasian or
Little Bitterns at Lake Ginninderra or Lake BG this spring or summer- where have they
gone? Were we only lucky to have them before.
