Just back from a lunchtime visit to Kellys.
Baillon's, Australian Spotted, and Spotless Crakes, immature
Buff-banded Rail, and Latham's Snipe all showing well in the inlet
channel. From my vantage point 5m up a casuarina I had extended views
of all but the Spotless Crake which I saw briefly twice - it was
seemingly being singled out by a cantankerous Dusky Moorhen with 2/3
grown young in toe. Managed to get some photos of various
combinations in a single frame. eg, Latham's, Spotted and Buff-banded
together. Unfortunately no shots of the Spotless!
Other goodies included Red-kneed Dotterel and Black-winged Stilt
(already mentioned) (Welcome back Al!), a Great Egret flew in just
before I left, and a trio of Whistling Kites circling and whistling
overhead and putting the fear of BOP into most of the ducks.
