After Marnix and I went to
Goorooyaroo on Saturday I popped by Giralang ponds, saw great egret,
yellow/green back behind eye, curved neck, large size. Checked out McKellar
pond, pair of black fronted dotterel with 1 young. 23 Masked lapwing!
Strange.
Went to W Lake Ginninderra, where
the opaline red rump was, saw same 3 dependent white plumed honeyeaters, 1
dependent willy wagtail, 1 dep magpie lark. All being fed by parents. Roger Curnow and I also saw 2
beautifully striped baby dusky woodswallows, which were being fed by parents but
also hawking for midges and moths. Also saw a little grassbird
including when it was calling
(same call as at Acacia peninsula), and quite a few Richard's pipit. I think I
heard stubble quails.
