Lorikeet hybridisation

Hi Martin,

 

Your bird looks like a ‘normal’ Scaly-breasted Lorikeet to me.  They often (?usually) have a slight blue tinge to the green on the head.

A few weeks ago I saw what I thought was a 'good' Scaly-breasted Lorikeet in the flowering eucalypt out the front of the Hall pub,  Afterwards some other folk saw my photos and (after photoshopping them somewhat) thought it had a blue head making it a Rainbow x Scaly hybrid.  I couldn't be sure what it was so withdrew the record.  I hope its still there next week when I revisit the area.
