The call is at night. (The bird was accidentally flushed from the ground by day, by the non-birder.)

… this?– A slow thwocking sound coming from the same patch where a non-birder saw a “frogmouth” on the ground. 

 

I’m just south of the sightings-range of Large-tailed Nightjar, & also at altitude. The sound is far slower than online recordings of that species’ “woodchop” call. 

 

Any ideas?
