Subject: Noisy Pitta in Brisbane

Chris,

About a decade ago, I was waiting in the late afternoon for a lift in front of
Parliament House, Brisbane, beside the railings of the Botanic Gardens, when a
scratching noise from the leaf litter through the railings drew my attention.
It was a Noisy Pitta, about 1.5 metres from the footpath and the constant
stream of pedestrian traffic to and from the QUT. I had no binoculars or camera
with me, and at that range no binoculars were needed.

Always a stunning bird to see, I was stunned.

The other Brisbane location (I think that it is still within the City boundary)
where I have seen Noisy Pitta closely and showing little concern for humankind
is around Cowan Cowan village on Moreton Island.

Angus Innes
