I was saddened to hear this news. John, or as I first knew him by the nom
de plume "Penn Gwynne" or "Jag de Wag" was an exciting and colourful member
of the birding-aus community.
Even though I never met him in person, I am pleased to say that I have
engaged in many an anusing email correspondence with him all starting when
I was an obsessed young birder at the age of 11, eager to converse
with anyone I could about birds. JAG was one of the first to reply to one
of my birding-aus emails and his uniquely unusual welcoming personality was
probably one of the key drivers of my decision to contribute so heavily to
an online community primarily dominated by 45+ year old adults.
I never met John in person but I know he was a good person and will be
missed by all.
RIP JAG.
Kind regards,
Kurtis Lindsay
