Planting natives

Hi Greg,

Thanks for that.

Melbourne is predicted to be drier, and that does seem to be happening.
Going for a walk in many of our State and Municipal Parks (haven't been to
a National one for a while) means crunching on dry leaves and bare patches
with little vegetation obvious. Part of this is possibly related to
cleaning up of weeds by Councils and to make it safer in relation to
bushfires, but it does seem to be affecting our smaller bird species with
numbers down.

As we pay for the water we use many people are opting for plants like
succulents and covering the ground with pebbles, and in my area we are
having an increase in the number of apartments and units with less garden
or space for them. It is good that multi-dwelling buildings limit urban
spread, but at the same time it is changing distribution of species!

No easy answers!

Thanks again for responding,

Sonja
