It seems to me that people are discussing two different things here. One is the 
attitude displayed by those close to the project that lots of people are 
itching to get to the site to have a look for themselves, and the other is 
whether birders should be allowed access.

I'm fine with the first one - perhaps they should be more diplomatic about how 
they justify keeping the location secret, even if they continue to keep it 
secret.

With the second one, we could argue forever about whether people would bother 
to go there, what kind of damage they could do, etc. But I can't see the point. 
They're saying no access, and arguing about the reasons here won't change that.
