Facebook just for groups (like Australian Twitchers)

I tried to join these groups when I read about them last week and couldn'tfind either. How do I get onto them?

I reluctantly signed up for a Facebook account so I could hook into the AustTwitchers and Vic Birders groups. Today I found a link to an app (publishedby the Facebook people) that only shows the groups you are subscribed to.
