Will let you pass along this message as I am not sure where it is supposed to
go.
The photo was clear enough to id the kingfisher as the Collared. According to
Doughty in Birds of The Solomons, Vanuatu and New Caledonia, the Collared KF is
highly variable with up to 12 subspecies in the region. Guy Dutson in Birds of
Melanesia says one of the main differences is the lack of the supercilium. In
the photo, the supercilium is clearly buff colored which is a common colour
here in the Collared KF.
So there you have my humble opinion based on the books. :)
