Hi Philip and others following this stream of conversation,
Strangely this species is posted on Eremaea Birds as Graylag, which is new to
me as a Canadian and British citizen (now also Australian). So, going back to
my first post re Graylag,it was merely an attempt to be culturally sensitive to
the "local" spelling - happy to go back to Greylag.
I have since seen that Graylag does not appear on the IOC listing for Australia
(as with BUBO listing) and does not appear on the C&B Checklist that was being
circulated around birding-aus as a useful resource. And yes, I will be
steering clear of any emotionally vacuous attempts to include free-roaming
domestics. There are plenty of other wonderful Australian native species to
spend time observing (and ticking).
