An unusual event is taking place as I write (4.30pm EDST on Saturday 9 Nov).
A wreck of StSws is occurring on Port Melbourne beach, immediately to the
west of Station Pier (where the Spirit of Tasmania is berthed).

Perhaps a hundred or so StSws can be seen flying in the air (some strongly,
some weakly), floating on the water (both in the shorebreak and further
out), and dying or dead on the beach (both along the shoreline or further up
the beach). It is of course quite distressing to see. Dying birds both on
the beach and in the water are able to be closely approached, unable to do
anything effective to save themselves.

What appears to be unusual is the location of this event on a metropolitan
bayside beach at the top of the bay only a few kilometers from the CBD,
rather than the event itself (in view of the many reports on this forum of
wrecked StSws over the past couple of weeks).
