Sun 20 Oct Freckled Duck Moggill Road Wetland, Moggill
Still a Freckled Duck on this small wetland (injured I think) + Wattled Jacana, Latham's Snipe, Buff-banded Rail, Royal Spoonbill and White-necked Heron)

Wilson's Storm-Petrels, Providence Petrels, Short-tailed Shearwaters Southport Pelagic
As well as the previous reports we also saw 300+ Wilson's Storm-Petrels, 100s of Short-tailed Shearwaters, 20+ Providence Petrels, c10 Flesh-footed Shearwaters, 2 Hutton's Shearwaters, c 20 Little Terns, and low numbers of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters. Excellent views of a bird which came into the boat over a 20 min. period.

Mottled Petrel Southport Pelagic
3 birds. One in c 200F and 2 in c45F - all 3 just kept going and didn't come into the boat. (record shot!)

Common Sandpiper (1) Small pond across the path from Jabiru Swamp.

Black-tailed Native-hen Lake Galletly, University Queensland, Lawes
Brief visit. One observer. Island was crowded with waterfowl. The water level was quite low and the lake surrounded by prominent bare banks. Black-tailed Native-hen (1) Flushed from grass near bird hide, landed on the island.

ncluding fresh water swamps off Sandy Camp Rd and tidal salt water marsh off Kianawah Rd 3 hr survey perfect conditions. Good views of brown bandicoot an a red bellied black snake also Pink-eared Duck (1) on salt water marsh

Australian Little Bittern Glendale area near Belmont Creek, north of Rockhampton
Uniintentionally flushed from a small, well vegetated, old property dam. Have seen the odd black bittern in the area over the years. First dollarbirds seen this morning (16 October).

One pair with two very young chicks amongst railway equipment. I have been hearing the birds there every evening and been seeing the adults frequently (at one point there were three adults). Tonight was the first time I saw the chicks.

Fri 11 Oct Black-necked Stork, Yellow-billed Spoonbill Tea Trees Wetland, Arundel, Gold Coast
Black-necked Stork (2) feeding on large pond 1 male and 1 female. Male observed and photographed with 500mm eel. Yellow-billed Spoonbill (2) in tree with 1 royal spoonbill.

Wed 9 Oct Lewin's Rail Lower Bellbird Clearing, Lamington NP
2 birds heard about 100m apart in Lantana beside the walking tracks in the old dairy farm in Lamington NP at the base of the cliffs on the northern side of Binna Burra Lodge. Access to this area is on the left of the Binna Burra road about 500m before the Visitor's Centre.

Mon 30 Sep Freckled Duck Lake MacDonald
Noosa Botanic Gardens. Freckled Duck (2) Botanic Gardens. Slight crest, light brown stomach, dark brown over the rest of the bird. Freckles on back and more striped than frecked on fron. Dark eye and deeply concave bill.
