I would be grateful to hear back from any list member/s (probably
ornithologist/scientists) who could suggest a suitable reference for, or who
would be willing to chat with me on the phone about, powderdowns.

I have attempted some on-line research but what little I was able to find
was insufficient to satisfy my curiosity.

Any willing respondent could email me directly, possibly with a phone number
I could call (and a suggested time convenient to you).
