We have had brush turkey chicks at Lane Cove for
3 seasons running now (ie the first one was in summer 2010).
Each chick has a different personality. The first year's one was
standoffish, last year's was a menace that came in and ate one's
toes if food was not promptly provided. This year we have four that
have reached a reasonable size. They are all a bit flighty.
This is in the national park so they have less predation from dogs.
Pretty much everything else (foxes, cats) would still be out to get
them.

I have also heard from friends living in areas around Bilgola, Manly Dam, Frenches Forest, Seaforth, Kuringai and St Ives that they often see the turkeys, and one friend has a mound just down the road from their house (I've forgotten which friend this was though, so I don't have a location...) They are clearly well established in North Sydney now, and I doubt that it will be long before they're advancing on the Royal National Park and Wollongong!

Subject: Northern Sydney Brush Turkey breeding
Hi all
I have definite evidence that the Brush Turkeys of Sydney's upper north
shore suburbs are breeding - a single juvenile bird (about Grey Teal size,
mostly brown tones, no "wafer" tail, "fluffy" appearance) has been busy
re-arranging my flower beds over the last few days.
Also 30+ White Throated Needle tails were seen very high up over the house
today approx 3:30pm - headed South-West (wrong way!).
