My wife and I are going to Bali next month for the first time and I'm
hoping to get some recommendations (or warnings) about accommodation. I've
been reading about the various sites and have some grasp of the geography
now. We'll probably have a free night in Nusa Dua which will give us a
chance to visit the sewage treatment works (the romance!), if they're
accessible at the time. After that, we're thinking of stays in Ubud,
Bedugul (or somewhere else up the mountains?) and Permuteran on the north
coast east of Bali Barat NP.

I've used TripAdvisor for years to help figure out accommodation in
advance, but it's become so hopelessly compromised by shilling for some
destinations that I don't know that I can count on it. Can anyone offer
some suggestions - good or bad - for Bali? Our ideal accommodation is
clean, quiet and not terribly expensive.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
