Date: Thursday, January 17, 2013

Location: Laratinga Wetlands

Elegant Parrot (Neophema elegans) (1) A pair of adult birds seen by Pat 
Newlands at around 9am, feeding on ground close to the board walk at pond 10. 
Two adults and a juvenile seen and photographed in the same general area by 
Kevin Williams on Jan 18th.

Date: Friday, January 18, 2013

Location: Black Point , Y.P.

Greater Sand Plover (Charadrius leschenaultii) (1) One bird was seen on the 
sand spit at high tide together with other shorebirds. There was a very strong 
easterly wind blowing, making it difficult for both the birds & me to stay 
upright, but I was able to get a photo during a slight lull between gusts. It 
is starting to colour up.

Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis) (1) One of the many Red-necked Stints 
being blown around was flagged orange over yellow on the right leg, identifying 
it as having been flagged in SA.

Location: Magazine Road Wetland

Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus) (1) 

Latham's Snipe (Gallinago hardwickii) (1) 

Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa) (12) 

Pink-eared Duck (Malacorhynchus membranaceus) (18) 

The Latham's Snipe and the Freckled Ducks (Up to 17 in number) have been at 
Magazine Road for at least the last three weeks.

44 species seen in 90 minutes by Rod and Kathy. Some outer ponds are completely 
dry.                  

Freckled Ducks have also been seen over the past three weeks at Whites Road 
Wetland which is also very dry at present.

at Vivonne Bay, 20 Jan 13. Collected for SA Museum.

White-faced Storm-Petrel (Pelagodroma marina) (1) Beachwashed at Vivonne Bay, 
20 Jan 13. Collected for SA Museum

Flesh-footed Shearwater (Puffinus carneipes) (1) Beachwashed at Vivonne Bay, 20 
Jan 13.

Darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae) (1) Immature: still present, roosting on rocky 
breakwater along Kingscote foreshore, 20 Jan 13.

Black-tailed Native-hen (Gallinula ventralis) (5) along shore of Duck Lagoon, 
Cygnet River, 18 Jan 13

Location: Critchley Road, Rockleigh

Brown Quail (Coturnix ypsilophora) (2) We flushed 2 birds out of reeds in our 
dry creek bed. We often see stubble quail but brown quail are a rare visitor. 
The country is very dry with little surface water, but after 11mm of rain a 
week ago there is still moisture in the soil in the creek beds.

Location: Old Noarlunga, South Australia

Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) (1) First time I've seen this species 
locally, according to 2 locals one bird appeared 2 days ago and then followed 
by another. These two were photographed on the river just upstream from the Old 
Noarlunga Market Square. They were quite timid and spent much of the time on 
the opposite bank preening, pictures taken and posted in to my flickr site, see

Location: Old Noarlunga - corner of Market Crescent and Hall Crescent

Nankeen Night Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus) (1) Whilst ticking off the Great 
Crested Grebes reported by Colin Cock yesterday, a Nankeen Night Heron with an 
injured wing was observed at close range near the outdoor tables.
