Thu 3 Jan Grass Owl Private property Woodstock via Townsville

Ian Boyd, and Peter and Leonie Valentine

Sun 30 Dec Barn Swallow France Road Turf Farm, Edmonton
Single bird with a Welcome Swallow on the turf farm off France Road, around access track. Quite a tatty individual, with a pale throat and forehead, but dark chest band, and clean white underparts noted. (Moderators Note:- Pale throat suggests a juvenile). Little Curlew also still present.
Andy Jensen

Sat 29 Dec Black Butcherbird Landsdown Creek, 7 km north of Woodstock
Black Butcherbird settled a few metres away from me while I was watching a waterhole in Landsdown Creek, and stayed there for some time. The build of the bird and its confiding nature suggests a juvenile. A seemingly most unusual environment for this species. Sorry no photo, but no doubt about the ID either. (Moderators' Note: - At about 26km inland from the Townsville coastline, this is a very unusual sighting, being so far from coastal mangrove forests)
Bill Holmes

Wed 26 Dec Banded Honeyeater Hasties Swamp
Swamp was very dry, little to see but for a Banded Honeyeater in tree by bird hide. (Moderator Note:- Not recorded on bird list from this location).
Tony & Stephanie Dawe Edwin Vella

Sooty Owl Wallaman Falls Road
Sooty Owl (ex Lesser) spotted and tracked down clinging briefly to vine in first section of rainforest on Wallaman Falls Road ( about 14km from the falls) at around 3am.
Tony Ashton
