Paddling in a canoe up the first gorge at about 9:30am and saw the Great-billed Heron flying from further up in the gorge and heading down the gorge towards us..it flew overhead....and was very large...had great views through my binoculars, amazing to see one for the first time...:D

Fri 5 Oct Little Kingfisher Pine Creek Park
Little Kingfisher ramsayi (1) Little Kingfisher still present under golden canes in 3rd pool from the top. Observed catching a spangled grunter, which was a bit large for him and consequently dropped while he was trying to swallow it!

Thu 4 Oct Little Kingfisher Pine Creek Park
Little Kingfisher ramsayi In confirmation of Peter Eves report 01/10/2012. Viewed Petes image and have taken photos also. Depanding upon which field guide. This bird is on the very edge OR out of its range. I have only reported 2 previous sightings, 1 on the Katherine River in 2006 and 1 on the upper Daly River (Fergusson River junction in 2004). Normally seen in more coastal or wetland areas such as Fogg Dam, Yellow Water in Kakadu and Adelaide River on Arnhem Highway. Wondering how long this bird has been present and discounted as an Azure? Photos available by request!!

Tue 2 Oct Yellow-rumped Mannikin Holmes Jungle Nature Park - Darwin City
A very large number (maybe thousands!) of Chestnut-breasted Mannikins coming in from all directions from 6pm to Sunset, Including at least 2 Yellow-rumped Mannikins at Holmes Jungle Nature Park in Darwin. They were all flying into the reeds & pandanus, near where the Dry Swamp meets the Forest to the right hand side.
