The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, July 16, 2012 to Sunday, July 22, 2012:

Area: SA

Date: Friday, June 29, 2012

Location: Happy Valley

Eastern Spinebill (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris) (1) I have lived here for 25
years and have never seen a spinebill in this area, let alone my own back yard!
It was by itself, feeding on nectar in a watsonia. I was too dumbfounded to run
for my camera.

Date: Sunday, July 15, 2012

Location: O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park

Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris) (1) Sitting in a tree just east of the
bicycle path beside the Southern Expressway. I assume that it was a
Black-Shouldered Kite and not a Letter-Winged Kite, but it didn't fly and I
wasn't sure.

Date: Friday, July 20, 2012

Location: Happy Valley

Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximius) (1) We have heaps of rainbow lorikeets
around here, but it was attracted to a different call today and looked up at a
neighbour's gum tree. Three lovely Rosellas were fluffed up against the cold.
They didn't hang around for very long, but it was great to see them.

Date: Saturday, July 21, 2012

Location: st Peters

Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans) (4) The rosellas (one alone, and a group
of 3) were exhibing courting behaviour, wiggling their tails, wriggling their
wings, and making 'come here' sounds, (even the bird sitting all by itself). On
a chilly damp morning isn't this rather early in the year for them to be
thinking about breeding ? A friend who lives just down the road next to a
bird-filled park also saw them looking for nesting holes earlier this week.

Reported by: Barbara and Peter Bansemer on Saturday, July 21, 2012
