While I'm also very cynical about the underlying motives of the deer hunters, I 
would also agree that a well-aimed bullet would be more humane to the deer and 
less likely to affect other species

One wonders what effect cyanide will have on native animals? Whilst I am in
favour of getting rid of ferals the use of an indiscriminate poison sounds
like a potential problem to me.
