Hi Folks,
Over the last few weeks there has been a noticeable local movement of some species moving down to lower altitudes. Birds that have turned up in the Lodge grounds that have come from the mountains behind (Mt. Lewis) have been Satin Bowerbird, Golden Whistler and Bower's Shrike-thrush. Previous to that Lewin's Honeyeater, Bridled Honeyeater and Grey-headed Robin have turned up. Satin Bowerbird, Golden Whistler and Bower's Shrike-thrush don't always come down every year unlike the Lewin's HE and Grey-headed Robin. Other altitudinal migrants to have made it down in previous years include White-throated Treecreeper, Fernwren, Yellow-throated Scrubwren,Victoria's Riflebird and Bassian Thrush. Other migrant passing through include Australian Reed-Warbler who use the cane fields to move through and Satin Flycatcher which Del Richards from Fine Feather Tours reported in Julatten this week. It will be interesting to see if any of the missing migrants turn up over the next few weeks. More information is on our blog
