Sat 28 Apr Barking Owl Killawarra Forest
A Barking Owl was heard calling a few times just after dawn this morning. I was quite surprised by the timing. This is species is known to occur in the forest but is irregularly recorded with my last record here being in 2008.

Fri 27 Apr Swift Parrot Major Plains
A flock of 10 birds flew over the Benalla-Boundary Rd to the south-west. A little surprised to see here. Perhaps they were moving between Boxwood NCR a few kilometres to the north (they have been recorded here before) and the Dookie Hills to the south where there is suitable habitat.

At 1630 hours, observed a single Song Thrush foraging around the base of a bird bath in my garden. Peregrine Falcon Blue-winged Parrot Elegant Parrot White-fronted Honeyeater Slender-billed Thornbill (6) Found these birds in exactly the same spot as yesterday. To find them drive the full length of the Old Dahlenburg Tk then walk 100 metres to the track that leads left and then turn right about 100 metres along and then walk about another 100 metres to a bend and that seems to be where they are resident

Slender-billed Thornbill, Forest Raven, Brown Quail Nhill-Harrow Rd, corner of Jingum Track, Little Desert NP
Had a small group of 4 Slender-billed Thornbills. First I've had here for a few years. Finally got some good photos. Had a Forest Raven fly over, giving distinctive low call, several times. Flight photos show a deep-bellied, large-billed bird. Australian Ravens also in area. This is a few kms north of previous sightings I've had here & suggest FRs could be resident. Brown Quail seen twice 3 & 2 birds, this species seems to be everywhere at the moment. Also had nice views of Rufous Fieldwren. Black Falcon about 6 km south.

Good numbers of seabirds offshore, & good birds seen, despite fog which limited visibity to about 1 K. 1 adult Buller's Albatross; 1 Sooty Shearwater with very distinctive & typical white primary coverts, typical for species, quite large compared to near by Fluttering Shearwater (haven't seen one from shore for years); 1 Flesh-footed Shearwater, (also not often seen from shore); 2 Brown Skuas; 1 Arctic Jaeger (& 4 other jaegers, either Arctic or Long-tailed); 6 adult White-fronted Terns (no juveniles!); 1 Giant Petrel sp. Also about 70 Black-browed; 30 Shy & 6 Yellow-nosed Albatrosses; a few odd Short-tailed Shearwaters still present. 1 Beautiful Firetail seen at picnic area north of Cape Nelson.

BirdLife Murray Goulburn

Blue-winged Parrots Point WIlson Rd, Western Treatment Plant
Large groups of Blue-wings, adding up to about 70 birds. Most remarkable that none of them appeared to be adults! Flying around a sunflower farm. Looked for Orange-bellied, but difficult to scan through swirling flocks.
