Just back from Ghana, if anyone wants a copy of the trip rep just drop me a line; anyway, the good news is that Dad Cassowary at Black Mountain Road, Kuranda is mended nicely, the bad gash on his hind leg has healed well, the spraying with Betadine must have helped stave off infection in that very wet period, and it is knitting up well. He and the two chicks come in each day at some point and look well fed, glad we did not have to resort to antibiotic stuffed rats as was mooted at one point. I saw a very nice Bush-hen on April 18 at the Barron River along Henry Hannam Drive near Mareeba, the lush grass must really suit them. Lots of Rainbow Bee-eaters heading north, and a few Silvereyes passing through. Barred Cuckooshrikes, Pied Monarch and Noisy Pitta were just calling off our deck, and Chowchillas are vocal at dawn, but Red- necked Crake has been very subdued.
