Published sightings for the week ending 11 Dec 2011.

Sat 10 Dec White-winged Fairy-wren Middle Beach
White-winged Fairy-wren (1) The white wings were visible amongst the samphire in the sunlight as we drove from Middle Beach. Sat atop bushes for an extended viewing, but contrast colours and backlight made photograph difficult.

Thu 8 Dec Buff-banded Rail American River, Kangaroo Island
The occurance of Buff-banded Rails on Kangaroo Island is a rare event. There have been confirmed reports at Penneshaw this year but at 8.15pm on Thursday the 8th we were delighted to observe a single bird near the CFS Station on the American River foreshore. It was fossicking around under a small casuarina but scurried off into the thick sedge near the waters edge when spooked.

Tue 6 Dec Freckled Duck, Banded Stilt, Intermediate Egret, Australian Spotted Crake, Peregrine Falcon Berri Evaporation Basin
At least 12 Freckled Duck present here today, and 2 Banded Stilts. Other good birds seen include a small number of Aus Spotted Crake, at least 1 Intermediate Egret, and a noisy Peregrine Falcon.

Mon 5 Dec Chestnut-breasted Whiteface 29km from Lydhurst
Observed CBWs at regular sites and five birds further north from second track. One of the birds displayed really droopy eyelids I don't know if anyone else has observed this, other birds showed thick eyelids but not as drooped??

Australian Spotted Crake Freeling stormwater run-off ponds
Australian Spotted Crake (2) First time seen at this site, both birds were feeding in short grass on edge of reeds.

Sun 4 Dec Peregrine Falcon Old Noarlunga cliffs
A pair of Peregrine Falcons sighted on a cliff ledge overlooking the Onkaparinga River in Old Noarlunga at 11:20am.

Fri 2 Dec Freckled Duck, Intermediate Egret, Baillon's Crake Whites Road Wetlands, Bolivar
Freckled Duck (2) both with red at base of bill tucked away on western side of small mud spit on most easterly pond closest to equestrian site entrance. Intermediate Egret (2) one on western-most pond, observed catching and swallowing a Skink. Other bird seen on margins of smaller pond toward north of site Baillon's Crake (4) quite easy to get sustained views of along margins of drainage channel that runs out toward the saltpans

Black Falcon Sturt Hwy at 34°23'53'S 139°16'33'E
Black Falcon (1) Flew across hwy near small stand of roadside trees,with a Kestral and 4 Miners mobbing it.
