The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, November 14, 2011 to Sunday, November 20, 2011:

Area: SA

Date: Sunday, November 13, 2011

Location: On our property at Rockleigh

Masked Woodswallow (Artamus personatus) (5) Species number 55 for our property.
We cannot be sure of the identity of 4 of the birds as only one flew low enough
to see its black face mask. Most of the time they were flying very high while
calling almost continuously.

Our second black-shouldered kite chick flew during the last week. Now there are
2 baby magpies sitting in their nest with their heads showing. We heard them
calling for food and tracked them down.

Location: Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park. Barossa.

Square-tailed Kite (Lophoictinia isura) (1) One adult circling low above the
open area just beyond the entrance gate. Good views were obtained to note key
features i.e. Long wings, streaked breast and grayish face. Observers: Roly
Lloyd and Edward Smith.

Shining Bronze-Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx lucidus) (1) One bird near entrance gate
along the trail. Initially found by hearing the call. A very uncommon species
for the reverse. Roly Lloyd and Edward Smith.

Date: Sunday, November 13, 2011

Location: Globe Derby Wetlands, Whites Road. Globe Derby Park . Adelaide.

Australian Painted Snipe (Rostratula australis) (1) Up to 11 Australian Painted
Snipe observed near the southern side of the dam. They were huddled in a tight

Date: Monday, November 14, 2011

Location: St Hallett Winery, Tanunda - Barossa Valley

Square-tailed Kite (Lophoictinia isura) (1) A single Square-tailed Kite came up
from the south slowly circling about 100m up till it got directly above the
winery, then it glided off in a north westerly direction towards the Tanunda
Sewage Ponds. Managed good views, then tried to get the camera from the car but
only a few average photos were taken as it had gotten too far away! This is the
third sighting in the central Barossa region in three weeks!

Date: Tuesday, November 15, 2011

Location: Price Salt Field.

Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) (6,000) Later in the morning I found
the bulk of the Banded Stilts on the ponds further away from the ocean side of
the site. Looked like more than 50% were adults. Red-necked Avocets dotted
around with them.

Banded Lapwing (Vanellus tricolor) (80) Found these birds out along the
southern boundry road.

Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) (10) Whimbrels seen in the area that has the best
selection of waders resting.

Eastern Curlew (Numenius madagascariensis) (10) Didn't find these birds while
searching but saw them fly out over the Mangroves later in the morning.

Fairy Tern (Sterna nereis) (8) We were dissapointed to find such a small number
of Fairy Terns.

Gull-billed Tern (Gelochelidon nilotica) (8) Nice to see some of these birds,
Whiskered Terns were there in large numbers.

This was a visit into the Price Salt Fileds for the Fairy Tern Survey and
dissapointing from that point of view. The tide was very high and the waders
stayed around, we had great views untill they started to fly out after 9.30am.

I was there with Margie Tiller, Chris Thomas and Beryl.
