Birdline Northern Territory

Published sightings for the week ending 25 Sep 2011.

Wed 21 Sep Australian Wood Duck, Great Crested Grebe, Great Cormorant Longreach Waterhole, Elliot
Australian Wood Duck (2) easily seen on bank with other waders. Flushed away when trying to get a photo, I believe they are on the edge of their range? Great Crested Grebe (2) Floating mid lagoon, with a hardhead or 2. Appear to be in breeding plumage. Very comfortable with heads tucked low, male extended once. Tried for long distance photo, but I fear that heavy cropping will be low quality. Great Cormorant (6) 1 flying across water followed by small flock of 5

Tue 20 Sep Nankeen Night-heron Alice Springs Sewage Ponds via The Chifley Resort
A young bird was collected by Parks officials at The Chifley Resort in Alice Springs and nursed for a couple of days. He was released at the sewage ponds into the thickly vegetated area around pond EP7a.
