As John Graff said, you won't find Rock Parrot between Perth and Bunbury. I saw them once in the salt marsh on the west side of the Vasse Wonnerup Estuary just north of Busselton, but that was only once and the area has been developed since.

You might like to visit Lane Poole Reserve near Dwellingup. This is not too far off the track to Bunbury, although Wungong Gorge is probably easier. But Red-eared Firetail is very hard to find at Wungong these days, although if you walk down the valley (say 90 minutes round trip - which you would have time for) then you would have a chance.

I can't remember the name of the camping area at Lane Poole. From Dwellingup, head east for a short distance and turn right. Lane Poole should be signposted there. It is a reasonable distance to the entrance to Lane Poole. From the entrance, pass the first camp ground, continue on and veer right across a small bridge and continue to the next camp ground. Red-eared Firetails could be anywhere, but I have found them near the camp ground along the river. Instead of entering Lane Poole, you can continue and cross the river and continue for several kms to the next camp ground on the left, and a day use area on the right. You would have chances of Red-eared Firetail, Red-winged Fairy-wren and White-breasted Robin in this area. All up, this would be about a 2.5 hour diversion from the South West Highway.
