Date: Thursday, May 12, 2011
Location: Linear Park, Highbury SA
Regent Parrot (Polytelis anthopeplus) (1) 1 Male flew across Linear Park and
perched on a dead tree before taking flight and heading up the Torrens Gorge.
Seen from my back Patio at Highbury. Never seen Regent Parrot in this area
before. I thought this area is out of its normal range so it may have been an
aviary escapee.

Date: Friday, May 13, 2011
Location: Whites Road Wetland, Bolivar
Regent Parrot (Polytelis anthopeplus) (1) Adult male bird seen well at several
spots around reserve. It appeared to be spending an unnatural amount of time
with Black-faced Cuckoo-Shrikes -every time they flushed it did to. Got good
close views to determine whether any leg bands were evident -none were seen.
White-naped Honeyeater (Melithreptus lunatus) (2) Two adult birds seen well on
north-western side of ponds. May have been another present.
A couple of other nice species for the location included at least two
Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater, a Spotted Pardalote, a Cockatiel (origin?) and a
female Golden Whistler -the former two were personal firsts at this location.
Four raptors were also sighted; a Peregrine Falcon, an Australian Hobby, two
Nankeen Kestrel and a Collared Sparrowhawk. There were also more than 65 Royal
Spoonbills resting in the western-most large, shallow pond.
