Birdline Central & Southern Queensland

Published sightings for the week ending 8 May 2011.

Sun 8 May South Island Pied Oystercatcher Point Halloran
Just received a call from Paul Walbridge advising that there was a SIPO at Point Halloran this morning. Brian Russell found it two weeks ago but wasn't then entirely confident of the ID. They now have numerous photos. It was with 80 OZPO's of NSW and SE Qld origin. Apparently the waders assemble there on a rising tide but then move on if the tide height is greater than 1.8 m as it was this morning. Note this site is in Qld NOT NSW!

White-fronted Honeyeater Minnippi Parklands
Single bird high in canopy at south end of park beside entrance to forest trail, approx 50m from Bulimba Creek, look for metal box 269. Seen at 8.30am and finally today at 17.00. In company with, and agressively chasing, Scarlet Honeys. This bird disappears for up to an hour so may take time to find. Photos will be posted. Call 0412522962 for more info.
Colin Reid & Rob Dougherty, also seen by Stuart Warren, Andy Jensen and Stuart Pickering.

Fri 6 May Kelp gull Gladstone marina parklands
Juvenile bird still moulting seen again today. This bird has been here in the harbour area since Xmas.

Mon 2 May Squatter pigeon, Turquoise parrot, plum headed finch and musk lorikeet Durakai Forest
Great day of birding at the dam and then in the forest tracks. Plenty of honeyeaters including a black chinned honeyeater. A party of 6 squatter pigeons walked towards me on a forest track and got so close I could not focus my camera, The minute I moved they were off. Single female turquoise parrot at the dam. Speckled warbler diamond firetail, double barred and plum headed finches on the forest edges along with musk and little lorikeets and an eastern rosella.
