Hi everyone,

This summer has seen a significant influx of Pectoral Sandpipers in the Perth
area. In my experience over the last few years, a few Pecs can usually be found
at Lake McLarty with the Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, and one or two at Thomsons or
Forrestdale Lakes. Outside of this, they are hard to come by. However, I know
of records from the following sites in the greater Perth are this summer (high
counts in parentheses)
Lake McLarty (21+)
Thomsons Lake (3+)
Kogolup Swamp (3)
Yangebup Lake (5)
Herdsman Lake (17)
Nambeelup (4+)
ALCOA Wellard Wetlands (1)
Bibra Lake (1+)

It would be interesting to know if this has been an exceptional year and more
than the usual number of Pecs have arrived in the south-west, or if they are
usually here, but scattered more through inland lakes that have been mostly dry
with the very dry year we had

For those in Perth who might like to have a look at some Pecs, there is
currently a flock at Herdsman Lake (14+ present this afternoon) around to the
right of the carpark along Lakeside Drive, near Heron Place. A flock of 5 was
also present at Yangebup Lake yesterday, on the east side of the lake

Cheers,
John
