The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period
Monday, February 7, 2011 to Sunday, February 13, 2011:

Area: SA

Date: Sunday, February 6, 2011

Location: McEacherns Beach, Port Moorowie, Lower Yorke Peninsula

Hooded Plover (Charadrius rubricollis) (10) This beach is below Yorketown on
Lower Yorke Peninsula. It was a shocking day with strong winds whipping up the
sand, quite painful at times. Margie Tiller and Chris Thomas walked 3 kms down
the beach and 3 kms back. We sighted 10 Hooded Plover going down and 7 Hooded
Plover coming back. We assume the ones coming back were repeats of those seen
earlier. There were some young amongst them. It was a reasonable high tide
coming in. Local reports indicate up to 30 have been seen on some early morning
walks. Better luck next time. Only 2 other birds seen a the whole walk - a
silver gull and a young Pacific Gull near the car park.

Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) (1) Initially heard by NRM
wetland-monitoring staff earlier this week, it was heard again then also seen
today. It was sitting in a River Cooba tree just above the tops of dense reeds.
Area only accessible by canoe.
Helga Kieskamp and Peter Waanders.

Date: Thursday, February 10, 2011

Location: Port Arthur, Yorke Peninsula

Banded Lapwing (Vanellus tricolor) (29) Intially 6 Banded Lapwing were seen
sheltering in shade on the edge of the mangroves to the north of the
carpark/lookout, in 37 degree heat. More birds flew in to join them. The flock
of 29 birds then walked to the dry sand and stood about. They were still there
when we left after aprox 45 minutes.

Observed by myself, Kathy Moore and Julie Turner. On a previous vist on Tues
8th, we observed 21 Eastern Curlew, plus 100+ Red-necked Stint and Red-capped
Plover.
