Hi folks,

Regarding Shirley's potentially valid concerns regarding the bona fides of
organizations such as Rainforest Rescue in their fund raising in an attempt to
help Southern Cassowary (and other wildlife) whose habitats have been severly
impacted by TC Yasi, Len Ezzy from Townsville has kindly done a bit of
investigation for us all.......

It appears that Rainforest Rescue is a bona fide organization but there are
also others options including Bob Irwin (Steve's Dad) for those people wishing
to contribute. Quoting Len ,"I guess what we all want is to make our dollar
donations the most effective in this Yasi devastation". I would add that there
is also a degree of urgency

Deb Pople who is a Senior Planning Officer with the Wet Tropics Management
Agency within the Dept of Environment and Resource Management (DERM) wrote in
recent communication regarding the wildlife disaster...."

Hope this clears it up.

Thanks to Len Ezzy, Ivor Presor, Deb Pople, Sean O'Shannessy (from Rainforest
Rescue), and Marty McLaughlin (QPWS Cape York and Savannah District
Manager)......Deb's email follows ....

Cheers,

Bill
There are there campaigns running at the moment and they've all agreed to pool
the money raised to support DERM (QPWS) post-cyclone cassowary recovery
efforts. So any money donated through Rainforest Rescue, Save The Cassowary, or
Bob Irwin should all be going towards the feeding programme. Rainforest Rescue
is probably the best known locally, but The Irwin's obviously have a bit of
pull internationally. Here's the links:
