This is a little bit worrying. I have had via a friend, another "Save the Carrowary" brochure that has almost exactly the same wording, but a different signature and address. I note that both are post office box addresses, with no street address.

Rainforest Rescue is a legitimate organization that seems to be doing good work. They really are running a campaign to raise money for cassowaries. Earlier this week I got a message directly from them that I'm sure is legitimate. The correct ways to donate are either at <http://www.rainforestrescue.org.au/ourprojects/save-a-rainforest-mission-beach.html> or by calling 1300 763 611 . The address in the earlier message seems to be that of another organization (or maybe a sub-organization) that is specifically dealing with cassowaries and that is sending out mail about the fund-raising attempt, but website and phone number they're giving out belong to Rainforest Rescue. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see scammers try to subvert funds so caution does seem appropriate. One trick used by a lot of internet scammers is to take the text of something legitimate, including at least some links to real sites, then substitute links to their own scam site and/or address when it comes to telling people how to donate. Disasters tend to bring out the scammers in droves.
