On the subject of late migrants, today I had several Brush Cuckoos and
Cicadabirds in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and I've have had quite a few
of both species over the past couple of weeks. The cuckoo in particular
should have well and truly gone by now. This week I've also had Little
Bronze Cuckoo, another summer migrant, about.

In the last couple of days I have twice observed a juvenile Eastern Koel
being fed by a Little Wattlebird.

This is unusual for two reasons. Firstly, this really late sighting for
a Koel at Ourimbah (Central Coast NSW). I have not seen a Koel for month
or so in my neighbour. They are usually gone by around March. Secondly,
Little Wattlebirds are not the preferred host. The more usual hosts are
Red Wattlebirds and Noisy Friarbirds.

There was considerable Koel activity earlier in the year. There were 3
male Koels showing lots of interest in 1 female and I actually witnessed
a "head bobbing" display between 2 males

Best Regards

Allan Benson"
