Call and structure are best- the call is a diagnostic disyllabic "tu- wee" a bit like a Spotted Redshank call if that is any help. They look small billed and delicate headed to me too, but this is hard to judge- see the photos of what is meant to be New Zealand's second Ringed Plover in Brian Chudleigh's "Shorebirds of NZ" which I still think looks like a Semipalmated!
