Happy New Year.

Just returned from 2 good days birding in the Upper Hunter up to Munghorn Gap with Allan and Rob Benson. Saw 30 - 50 White Throated Needletails near Broke (30/12/09). Conditions were overcast and cool. Needletails were just above tree canopy.

We also saw a Rock Warbler in Goulburn River National Park and a Brush Cuckoo at Munghorn Gap, Striped Honeyeaters and excellent views of a Cicadabird at Sandy Hollow Caravan Park. We also saw two groups of Emus with young at Munghorn Gap.

There were very few honeyeaters of any type and no lorrikeets or other nectariferous parrots, despite there being patches of eucalypt covered with blossom.

Happy birding.
