Reg, there have been many well-documented sightings of the species in
several locations at Park Orchards in the past few weeks. (Wonga Park is
an adjoining suburb to Park Orchards.)

This afternoon I was at my son's property in Wonga Park, an eastern
suburb of Melbourne. I went to put out some rubbish and three metres
from the bin there was a large callistemon in flower. Seeing some
movement in the bush, I stopped to take a look. I was astonished to see
the bush alive with scarlet honeyeaters.
Later I went out several times to look and they were still about. The
only other honeyeaters I saw in the bush were a couple of New Holland
honeyeaters and a couple of yellow-faced.
Writing in 1967 Roy Wheeler reported an irruption of scarlet honeyeaters
in Bayswater, Melbourne in 1902. There have probably been some since
then, but they are here now.
