Hi all,
The inaugural WA Twitchathon was run successfully over last weekend, although
temperatures hovering around 40C on Sunday made it uncomfortable at times. The
best sighting was awarded to Little Curlew (seen by The Big Twits, Canny Owls &
A Schnifter of Schnerders at Lake McLarty) narrowly ahead of Malleefowl
(S.W.O.T.) and with honourable mention to Little Penguins from shore in
Mandurah (The Big Twits). The worst dip was awarded to Rainbow Lorikeet
(JEMMs), narrowly from Singing Honeyeater (Peeping Pardalotes) with honourable
mentions to Welcome Swallow (Stark Raven Mad) and Laughing Kookaburra (Flying
Nomads). The full results for the competitions are below. S.W.O.T. won the 24
hour race by a relatively comfortable 6 species, but the 12 hour race was much
closer, with the Melville Hava-chats winning by the barest of margins from A
Schnifter of Schnerders.

Many thanks to all those who participated and made it a successful event, and
also to those involved in the east coast competitions who responded to my RFI
many months ago with helpful suggestions about rules etc. Thanks also to those
on the BAWA excursions committee who were very helpful with the planning.
