I have a Manfrotto Modo Maxi 785B with joystick head. The 'joystick' is a
bit like a pistol grip and the head is released and locked with finger and
thumb. I find that a lot quicker to use than twist grip head controls.

The Maxi 785B is only 1 kg - I have an aversion to carrying any more than I
have to - and that means it is not as stable as heavier tripods. I use a
lightweight Gerber Montana spotting scope that works well with the Maxi
785B. Heavier scopes may not suit it.

Hi All,

In attempting to open my tripod too quickly, I recently managed to break
one
of its legs - consequently, am hoping Santa will bring a replacement. A
birder who seemed to know what he was doing recommended a Manfrotto. I
googled this and found a bewildering array of options - many aimed at
camera
users. I only want something light to mount a scope a scope on and look.

Is Manfrotto the go? Would someone be so kind as to advise and perhaps
recommend.
