A timely reminder about reporting all Common Blackbirds sightings in Qld and
around the NSW/Qld border. Blackbirds are already a significant horticultural
pest in southern states and though not yet common anywhere in Queensland, fruit
growers in the Granite Belt and St George areas should be particularly vigilant
from now on as blackbirds have been confirmed in both locations.
This is by far the best time of year to pinpoint their exact whereabouts as
they are territorial during the breeding season and easily found by listening
for the singing males, particularly early morning and late afternoon. You can
listen to the blackbird's song, and access the on-line reporting form on the

Even if you have reported them in an area previously, I'd appreciate subsequent
records too and opinions about their status i.e. on the
decline/stable/increasing. Very keen to hear of any blackbird nesting events
too as none have been reported since the awareness campaign began in 2008.

Still a large knowledge gap as to which areas east of Killarney, Stanthorpe and
Tenterfield have been infiltrated
