Just back from a trip to Lotusbird Lodge in far North Queensland, before they close for the season. It was brutally dry and pretty hot, with not much sign of rain yet. Highlights:

Sarus Crane 2 on a small dam 20 km north of Laura were well up the Cape.
Golden-shouldered Parrot 30+ including 6 males in nice plumage.
Red Goshawk an adult and a wonderful jiuvenile nearby, looking curiously like a giant Brown Falcon only rusty red below!
Black-breasted Buzzard one at a huge nest
Oriental Plover 5 on Marina Plains
Australian Pratincole 30 on Marina Plains
Red-kneed Dotterel 2 at Lotusbird (LBL)
Marsh Sandpiper 6 at LBL
Papuan Frogmouth pair at LBL
Bar-breasted Honeyeater 2 at Nifold Plains
Yellow-tinted Honeyeater a few at Violet Vale
White-gaped Honeyeater 1 at Macleod River near Mt. Carbine
Zitting Cisticola 3 on Marina Plains
Red-browed Pardalote a couple at Violet Vale

No finches at all, just too dry, but thanks to Sue and Gary at LBL for great hospitality. A Palm Cockatoo has been seen near the lodge but we had no sign of it.
