Dear All,

A bit off B-A's mainstream, but the info may be of benefit to some. New fees are being introduced in National Parks in Indonesia. The fees are for compulsory "guides" for foreign visitors. The average fee is approx USD 45 per person/group per day. For this, it seems that you get a person who's job is to tag along with you, if you want someone who actually knows something about the birds and environment, the fee apparently goes up to around USD 90 per day. There is a thread on the subject on the Oriental Birding news-group at the moment. There seems to be some degree of uncertainty as to whether the fees are official or not.

Anyone who is planning a trip to any of Indonesia's National Parks should factor the fees into their budgets.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
