Highlights of the first Kakadu Bird Week, from 11-15 October, included White-throated Grasswren and the other sandstone endemics at Gunlom, Gouldian Finches 13 km south of Mardugal, Great-billed Heron, Black Bittern, Rufous Owl and Little Kingfisher at Cooinda/Yellow Waters, Banded Honeyeater and Diamond Dove on Old Darwin Road and Little Curlew at South Alligator floodplain. Little Grebe in full breeding plumage at Leanyer (Darwin) sewage farm on 15 October.
