As many people can't justify the expense of feeding and housing an iPhone, it would be great if a version that ran on an iPod touch was available, and you could load the Touch with bird calls as well. A complete birders companion. I think I could justify buying a touch then :-) Are you reading this Charlie?

Cheers,

Carl

Well I must say that i got a very pleasant surprise last night. I emailed the support page of the Birdsight developer with a couple of suggestions that Russell had pointed out below and within 8 hours i had a personal and interested reply from Charlie the developer! He was apologetic about forgetting to add a delete sighting option and very enthusiastic to hear peoples feedback!! It was so nice to know that the guy developing it is really keen to have people suggest things to make it the best app he can.
I emailed Russell who has also now had contact and response with him.
If anyone wants his email address I would be more than happy to pass it on.

Alternatively I know Russell has let him know about joining birding aus to be able to view the discussion here so please feel free to keep discussing any issues/wants you have on the list.
(I hope this is OK Russell?)

Cheers
Dave

I'm just trying it out today - looks good, but there are some annoyances which I hope will be fixed in an update - for instance, if you accidentally poke the wrong bird when you are adding observations, then you have to delete the entire outing / observation to get rid of it - I couldn't find any other way. And I think I'd raise eyebrows if I left Adelie Penguin in my list for Geelong Botanical Gardens today :-)

The search function is interesting - I typed "Ibis" and got Aust White Ibis, Glossy Ibis, and Cattle Egret, but not Straw-necked! I had to type "Straw" before that came up.

I'd also like it if the default number was set to nothing, rather than 1. Maybe some of these things can be changed in preferences? I haven't tried yet.,

G'day John

You get the program from Apple's iTunes store. Fire up iTunes, go to the store and search for 'birdsight'. You need to have an iTunes account.
